Whilst out fishing and taking photos of the great scenery around Kirkudbright and Brighouse bay in Dumfries, Scotland we encountered what we thought at the time was a couple of dolphins in the distance. Then to our surprise several more showed above water, we changed course to get a bit closer but not too close. Amazingly like a SeaWorld show four lept out of the water in synchronisation about 10ft in the air(unfortunately not on camera). They scoured the boat with a number of passes and rode with us for a couple of minutes then seemed to continue on their journey, we turned the boat round to continue our journey also seeing the dolphins about 300m ahead.
Our little dinghy wasn’t in anyway fit for chasing dolphins so we thought ‘wow what a wonderful few minutes’. What happened next was just unbelievable, two of the pod had turned back to ride on our tiny bow wave soon to be followed by a few more. by now we were surrounded in a pod of dolphins one of which was as long(if not longer) than our boat. By the time we had stopped gathering more and more attention we arrived at a final count of between 10 and 12 wonderful streamlined aquatic, acrobatic torpedoes. They stayed with us for a total of over 30 minutes. Hope you enjoyed the video.
