PVC Glue Uses for Soft Inflatable Boats (SIB)

1. SIB Repairs

PVC glue is essential for maintaining and repairing soft inflatable boats. Here’s how it can be used:

Small Punctures:

  • Cleaning: Ensure the damaged area is clean and dry. Use MEK or Acetone
  • Cutting a Patch: Cut a PVC patch that extends at least 2 inches beyond the damaged area on all sides.
  • Applying Glue: Apply a thin layer of PVC glue to both the patch and the damaged area. Let it sit for a few minutes then add a second layer until it becomes tacky.
  • Affixing the Patch: Carefully place the patch over the damaged area, pressing firmly to ensure a good bond. Use a roller or a smooth, hard object to press out any air bubbles.
  • Curing: Allow the glue to cure for at least 24 hours before inflating the boat.

Larger Tears:

  • Reinforcing: For larger tears, you might need to reinforce the area with additional patches. Apply glue to each layer, ensuring a solid bond between the patches.
2. Patch Application

Applying patches is a common task for inflatable boat owners. PVC glue plays a crucial role in this process:

Surface Preparation:

  • Sanding: Lightly sand the area around the damage to create a better bonding surface.
  • Cleaning: Clean the sanded area thoroughly to remove any debris.

Patch Application:

  • Glue Application: Apply PVC glue to both the patch and the area around the damage.
  • Wait Time: Allow the glue to become tacky, which usually takes a few minutes.
  • Patch Placement: Carefully place the patch over the damaged area and press firmly.
  • Sealing: Use a roller to ensure there are no air bubbles and the patch is securely in place.
  • Curing: Allow at least 24 hours for the glue to fully cure before using the boat.
Railblaza Accessories Application

Railblaza accessories can be easily attached to SIBs using PVC glue. These accessories include rod holders, camera mounts, and more:

Mounting Surface Preparation:

  • Marking the Location: Determine the exact location where the accessory will be mounted.
  • Cleaning: Clean the area to ensure it is free of dust and debris.

Glue Application:

  • Apply Glue: Apply a generous amount of PVC glue to the mounting surface of the accessory and the boat.
  • Attachment: Press the accessory firmly against the boat’s surface.
  • Securing: Use clamps or weights to hold the accessory in place while the glue sets.

Curing:

  • Wait Time: Allow the glue to cure for at least 24 hours before using the accessory.
Tips for Using PVC Glue
  • Temperature Considerations:
  • Optimal Conditions: Apply glue in a well-ventilated area at temperatures between 65°F and 75°F (18°C and 24°C).
  • Avoid Extreme Cold or Heat: Extreme temperatures can affect the glue’s curing process.

Storage:

  • Sealing the Container: Ensure the glue container is tightly sealed when not in use to prevent it from drying out.
  • Cool, Dry Place: Store PVC glue in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Safety
  • Ventilation: Use in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling fumes.
  • Protective Gear: Wear gloves and eye protection when handling PVC glue.
